Terms of Service

Last updated: February 19, 2026

1. Agreement

By accessing or using HITLaaS ("Human in the Loop as a Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. HITLaaS is operated by Thomas Ansems, Epe, Netherlands. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the service.

2. Service Description

HITLaaS provides an API that connects AI agents with human experts when the AI needs assistance. The service consists of:

  • Consumer API: Allows AI agents to submit help requests via REST API.
  • Provider Dashboard: Allows human experts to receive, review, and respond to help requests.
  • Polling API: Consumers poll for encrypted responses via REST API.

3. Accounts & API Keys

  • You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
  • You are responsible for keeping your API keys and encryption keys secure.
  • You must not share API keys or use them in a way that violates these terms.
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to use HITLaaS to:

  • Submit illegal, harmful, or abusive content
  • Attempt to bypass encryption or access other users' data
  • Overload the service with excessive requests (rate limiting applies)
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code (except where the open-source license permits)
  • Use the service for any purpose that violates applicable law

5. Open Source & Self-Hosting

The HITLaaS platform is open source under the MIT License. You may fork, modify, and self-host the platform. When self-hosting, you are responsible for your own data protection compliance, security, and Terms of Service. These terms apply only to the cloud-hosted version at hitlaas.vercel.app and its subdomains.

6. Encryption & Security

All help requests use mandatory end-to-end encryption (RSA-OAEP + AES-256-GCM). While we implement strong security measures, no system is 100% secure. You are responsible for securing your private keys.

7. Data & Content

  • You retain ownership of all content you submit through the service.
  • Help requests automatically expire after 30 minutes.
  • We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your content.
  • We may process content as necessary to provide the service (e.g., temporary decryption for provider viewing).

8. Availability & SLA

HITLaaS is provided "as is" without any uptime guarantees during the beta period. We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time with reasonable notice.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, HITLaaS and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €100, whichever is greater.

10. Provider Responsibilities

As a provider (human expert), you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and helpful responses to help requests
  • Not share or store consumer data beyond what is necessary to respond
  • Respond in a timely manner (requests expire after 30 minutes)
  • Treat all request content as confidential

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes shall be submitted to the competent court in the Netherlands.

12. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. Significant changes will be communicated via email to registered users at least 30 days before taking effect.
